Choose channels Asante posts in

Asante only sees and posts in channels you explicitly invite it to. This page covers how to pick the right channels, the difference between "watched" and "announce" channels, and how to keep Asante out of channels where it doesn't belong.

How channels work

There are two kinds of channel relationships:

• Watched channels. Asante reads messages here so it can detect recognition. Invite Asante by typing /invite @asante in the channel.
• Announce channel. Where Asante posts weekly summaries, leaderboard updates, and the monthly AI brief. You pick one announce channel per workspace.

Most teams start with one channel that's both — usually #kudos — and add more over time.

Picking your first channel

The simplest setup is a dedicated #kudos channel:

1. Create #kudos in Slack (or pick an existing channel).
2. From the channel, type /invite @asante.
3. From the Asante home tab, open Settings → Channels and mark it as your announce channel.

Now every kudos posted in #kudos counts, and Asante's weekly summary lands there too.

Watching multiple channels

Teams that recognize across multiple channels (e.g. #eng-wins, #design-shoutouts, #customer-feedback) can invite Asante to each one. There's no limit on watched channels. Each recognition counts the same — the channel just acts as the "where" in your analytics.

To add a watched channel:

1. Go to the channel in Slack.
2. Type /invite @asante.
3. Asante posts a one-line confirmation.

To remove Asante from a channel:

1. Go to the channel.
2. Type /kick @asante.

Past recognition in that channel stays in your history, but no new kudos will be counted there.

Private channels

Asante doesn't work in private channels. Slack requires a separate, more sensitive set of permissions to read and post in private conversations, and it approves those app by app — Asante hasn't been granted them. Inviting Asante to a private channel won't make recognition work there.

We're working closely with the Slack team to get those approvals, but we don't have a clear path or timeline yet. Until then, if you want recognition that isn't visible in a public channel, use Private Kudos Points — they're sent one-to-one and never posted to any channel.

Where Asante doesn't go

Asante never reads:

• Direct messages (DMs).
• Private channels.
• Files, voice notes, or huddles.

This is a hard guarantee enforced by Slack's permission model — Asante simply doesn't have the scope to access these. See the privacy policy for details.

Changing your announce channel

If you want Asante to post weekly summaries somewhere new:

1. Invite Asante to the new channel.
2. Open Settings → Channels in the Asante home tab.
3. Pick the new announce channel from the dropdown.

The next summary will land in the new channel. You can move it back any time.
